Nicaraguan cigars

Nicaragua is one of the leading producers of handmade cigars for the premium segment and around 150 million cigars are created here in an average year. A lot of these cigars are exported, and the top Nicaraguan cigar brands are today highly regarded among cigar aficionados around the world.

Despite having excellent conditions for cigar making, the cigar industry in Nicaragua might never have existed if it wasn´t for the Cuban revolution of 1959, as this is the event that prompted skilled cigar producers to leave Cuba in search of a land that would provide their tobacco farms with a soil quality and climatic conditions just as favourable as the ones they had enjoyed in their homeland. This, they found in the fertile mountains of northern Nicaragua – and the rest is history.
